FUMC Adult Ministry invites you to consider the gift of a spiritually-centered study in your life.
It is in settings of close connection with others on a faith journey that we deepen our relationship with God and strengthen connections with one another as the church, the body of Christ.

We encourage everyone to consider one or more of these short or long term commitments, whether as a new visitor or a new or long time member. We are all on the journey! |

Aldersgate Room

More event details on Facebook.
This course covers over 70% of the Bible exploring the history, culture, lifestyles and theology of those who formed our faith heritage. Learn how God communicated over time, and how the Bible guides us in faith today. Dan Gara shares, “I have taught Bible studies and led small groups for many years, but there was a time I was reluctant to talk about my faith or the Bible. At that time, I would have been classified as a biblical illiterate. When Disciple Bible Study was first published, I decided to do something about that, so I joined a class. That unique experience changed my life and started me on a lifelong journey to know more. I also made some wonderful friends as we experienced the Bible stories together, both their historical context and their relevance today.”
Study materials fee $45; scholarship assistance available.
Jesus in the Gospels
Mondays, September 12, 2011 - May 7, 2012; 7:00-9:15 pm
Church Lounge
Leader: Kevin Lussier

Jesus in the Gospels focuses on the portraits of Jesus found in the four Gospels - Mark, Matthew, Luke and John. In our minds and worship, we often mix together and combine elements of the four Gospels, and in doing so create for ourselves a fifth Gospel that was never written. On the contrary, each Gospel has its own unique interpretation of Jesus. Each Gospel was written at its own specific time, for each author’s particular community and church, and reflects the Gospel writer’s own interpretation of who Jesus was and why he is significant. These different perspectives provide opportunities to understand and appreciate more than one way of following Jesus. Through daily reading assignments and weekly class discussion, class participants should expect to have their established portraits of Jesus challenged and in the process gain an enriched understanding of the multi-faceted ways Jesus was interpreted by some of our earliest Christian writers. Jesus in the Gospels takes critical scholarship seriously, and in doing so opens up to class participant’s new ways of thinking about Jesus and what it means to be a follower of Christ. Out of this scholarly approach emerges personal and spiritual growth.

You are very welcome to join us. There are no reading assignments but you will come away finding the Old Testament much more interesting. Join us and build on your knowledge. Just bring an open mind and an inquisitive nature!

Home Group
1st & 3rd Thursdays; participants’ homes, 7:15 pm
Location TBD/various
Leader: John Evans
Home Group is the place for those who want to meet once every two weeks for Bible study or maybe to take a course or class that somehow isn’t offered elsewhere. Home Group is great because members get to choose what activities take place and who should lead them. We also have a great social life - would you believe our Summer Home Group Social Night is a trip to Hollywood Bowl to see Dolly Parton?
Contact John Evans at 626-303-4654 to sign up.
