Minister of Music & Communication

With a heart for deepening the connection between music and the proclamation of God’s Word, Greg is equally at home conducting choirs and orchestras, playing the organ and piano, singing and preaching. He is a published composer and choirs under his direction have been heard on National Public Radio and have toured Germany, Austria and Mexico. He is frequently invited to speak and teach on church music topics and his articles and sermons have been published nationally. Greg joined the staff at First UMC in 2015.
A native of Redlands, Greg was consecrated as a Diaconal Minister in 1990, was ordained as a permanent Deacon in 1997, and has served UM churches in the Rocky Mountain and Cal-Pacific Annual Conferences. He holds degrees in conducting from Chapman College and the University of Southern California and the Colleague certificate from the American Guild of Organists. He attended the Iliff School of Theology in Denver and studied Spanish in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Greg is married to Paul Floyd, a member of the Chancel Choir and a professional pianist who is frequently heard on the church's concert series. They live in Altadena with their adopted greyhound.
