Director of Intentional Faith Development

Born in California and raised in Texas, Rev. Jennifer Chapman is happy to be living in the sunshine state! As the Intentional Faith Development Director at First UMC, Pastor Jen oversees the Christian education programs with a primary focus in ministry to children and youth and families. She is also the lead clergy person in a new initiative of FUMC to build relationships with our unhoused neighbors. Before coming to First UMC Pasadena in July of 2017, Jen spent seven years as the lead pastor of an urban, missional church plant in Dallas, TX. Raised and trained in the Church of the Nazarene, a Wesleyan denomination that shares both heritage and theology with the United Methodist Church, Jen is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University (BA in Religion/Theology) and Nazarene Theological Seminary (MDiv). She’s currently in the process of transitioning her credentials to the United Church of Christ. Jen is a passionate and creative leader with a compassionate and missional heart.

Jen and her husband, John, have two sons, Joseph and Michael, and a French bulldog, Lucy. John is a passionate and dedicated high school teacher and the head football coach at Blair High School where both boys attend school. The Chapman family live in Altadena and enjoy exploring all Southern California has to offer, especially hiking, and going to the beach. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Jen enjoys practicing yoga, watching good TV (too many to pick a favorite), hanging out with her sidekick, Lucy, and dabbling in the creative outlets of writing and photography.
