Interested in Joining
the Church?
Joining the church is an important step in claiming the Christian faith for yourself. When you join the church, you make a commitment to your own spiritual journey, nurtured through worship and the love of a faithful Christian community.
-
We ask that all of our members commit themselves to a practice of prayer, enriching their relationship with God and upholding the church, others and themselves in spiritual devotion.
-
We ask all of our members to make a commitment to be present with the worshipping community whenever possible. Whether you join us for worship in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings, or via our YouTube page, worship helps us to ground us in God’s grace, listen more deeply to Scripture, reflect on sermons, and join in the shared life of the community of faith. We believe that worship, sacraments and the community that is formed in worship is absolutely vital to a growing Christian faith.
-
We ask that all of our members make a commitment to support the work of the church through the sharing of their time, financial resources, and unique gifts.
How might you use the gifts and resources that God has given you to strengthen the ministries of First United Methodist Church?
-
We ask that all our members make a commitment to serving the church through acts of ministry within the church and/or in the broader community
-
We ask that all of our members think of their Christian life not as something contained to Sunday mornings, but lived out in their faithful acts throughout the week at home, in the workplace and in the community.
In the United Methodist Church, we use five words to talk about what it means to be a part of a congregation:
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
In the United Methodist Church we believe that Holy Baptism is the sacrament of initiation and incorporation into the Body of Christ. When we decide to be baptized, we profess our recognition of God’s grace in our lives and our desire to love and serve Christ as our Lord. Baptism is the start of a life-long journey of growing in our practice of Christian discipleship. This commitment is both to a personal relationship with Christ and with his Body, the Church.
If you are considering baptism, you are in the midst of a sacred time in your life and faith and we give thanks for the work that God is doing in your life. Please fill in the form to right to set up a time to meet with our pastor so that can help you take the next step in your Christian faith.
Baptism of a Child
When parents bring their children for baptism, they make a vow to raise their children to know and love God through the ministries of the church until they can make that commitment for themselves when they are confirmed in the faith (between 12-14 years of age). Raising a child in the church includes regular attendance in worship, Sunday School and other activities designed to foster spiritual growth and faith development experiences of children. When a child is baptized in the church, both the parents and the congregation make a vow to love, support and nurture the child in their Christian discipleship.
If you are considering having your child baptized, please set up a time via our form to meet with our pastor to plan for this important and sacred commitment in the life of your family and child.
