Music
We are a community that appreciates the musical expression of faith. The Chancel Choir leads us in song during worship most Sundays. We also have multiple children’s choirs, handbell choirs, and the popular Third@First concert series featuring world-class musical artists. We’d love to have your musical gifts become part of our music ministry.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir sings in Sunday services at 10:00 a.m., plus additional Christmas and Easter services or concerts.
Rehearsals are on Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., and Sundays at 9:15 a.m., prior to Worship service. The choir’s repertoire includes traditional choral music, contemporary worship music, and a variety of music from other cultures. Choir is open to all adults (age 18 and older) regardless of church membership.
Cherub and Cantate Choirs
Both Cherub and Cantate Choirs Meets every Sunday from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and is open to all children, regardless of church membership.
The Cherub Choir (pre-k - 1st grade) and The Cantate Choir (2nd grade - 6th grade) perform age-appropriate songs in worship and often perform in annual pageants and concerts. A positive first experience in ensemble singing emphasizes building kids’ confidence, creativity and curiosity.
Handbells
All are invited to join our handbell groups
Our handbell program offers a ringing opportunity for children, a Youth Handbell group, and The Resound Ringers adult handbell group. Bring your willingness to learn and spirit of participation. Handbell players perform in services, concerts and community festivals.
Third@First
The Third at First Concert Series offers a place to hear musicians perform on the third Saturday of each month, October through July.
Musical offerings range from intimate piano and chamber music recitals to jazz to full-scale orchestra-choral works. All concerts are offered free of admission charge.
Summer Musical
For over 50 years, First UMC has hosted a Summer Musical program.
We welcome performers ages 3 to 103 of all experiences to audition. Shows debut in July, are free to attend, and are well-loved by the Pasadena Playhouse Village Neighborhood.
Safe Gatherings
The United Methodist Church’s Safe Gatherings policies ensure that every church is a safe place where children, youth and elders may experience the abiding love of God and fellowship within the community of faith.
Our church staff and persons working with our children and youth have completed a comprehensive background check and training to ensure that our campus and programs are safe for children. Children are our top priority and we make every effort to ensure their physical, emotional and spiritual safety while they are in our care.
